Harris' Antelope Squirrel (Ammospermophilus harrisii) - English

Omnivorous, feeding on fruits and seeds and the occasional insect and mouse. Diurnal and active year-round. Because it is adapted to tolerate hyperthermia, it often is the only small mammal seen during the hottest parts of the day in summer.

Texas Antelope Squirrel (Ammospermophilus interpres) - English

These squirrels are characteristic of desert regions in the southwest where they live chiefly around the edges of the lower valleys and in the low hills. They seem to prefer hard-surfaced, gravelly washes or rocky hill slopes and are less common or entirely absent on level, sandy terrain.

Ammospermophilus leucurus is commonest in grasslands and marginal piсon-juniper woodland. It appears to prefer level, often sandy, areas b ut is also found in rocky situations and, like A. interpres, may climb low trees and shrubs. Holes of bannertail kangaroo rats and those of other rodents may be used as shelter.
