Concentration of capelin (Mallotus villosus) in tidal upwelling fronts at the head of the Laurentian Channel in the St. Lawrence estuary - French
URL: http://www.nrc.ca/cisti/journals/cjfas/f99-117.html

In 1994 and 1995, continuous monitoring of physical characteristics and echo integration were used to detect aggregations of capelin (Mallotus villosus) in the upper water column in relation to thermal fronts and to examine the tidal dynamics in an intense upwelling area at the head of the Laurentian Channel. During the four cruises, fish aggregations were recorded for 72% of the fronts (n = 61) resulting from the periodic upwelling of cold waters.

Fish sauce from capelin (Mallotus villotus) as affected by harvest season - English
URL: http://ift.confex.com/ift/2001/techprogram/paper_7694.htm

Capelin is a pelagic fish available in large quantities, currently utilized for fishmeal and oil production. Fish sauce, commonly manufactured through enzymatic/microbial fermentation from anchovies in SE Asia, is a clear brown liquid, which gives a salty/sweet taste. The biological nature of capelin in the North Atlantic Ocean has indicated that its autolytic activity is always higher in the summer than in winter and may be suitable for fish sauce production.
